Do I have hernia?

Couple of weeks I noticed small bulge on the left side of lower stomach. I didn’t pay attention to it at first, but after seeing it every day, I decided to visit a doctor. As bulge was quite low under my stomach, I decided it could be something men’s health related problem, so I visited urologist at first. Doctor told me it is usual hernia in the first seconds after he took a look on that bulge. I felt a little bit reliefed because I was heard that hernia is not something serious if compared to other possible problems in that area. So I visited surgeon, and he said the only option is to do surgery, and set the date for it at the end of June. So I have more than two months to live and train (can I train?) with it. Let’s check it out.

What exercises can I do with hernia?

Surgeon told me not to lift more than 5kg, but I feel like it is not really obvious for my inguinal hernia.

So I decided to visit my physiotherapist, who I knew from my previous visits. He was working with athletes, so he has experience with such problems obviously. Physiotherapist took a look on my hernia and calmed me down, that it is not something very dangerous. Yes, of course I have to be careful and listen to my body how it feels, but it is not something extraordinary. I have to avoid exercises that involves abs heavily, and instead of that, I can do isolated exercises. I have to avoid push ups, planks and core exercises. Regarding pull ups, he said, I can try very carefully to do ‘bad form’ pull ups, trying to not involve the core. Do with limp legs and body, trying not to strain the abs. And do only few reps, just to keep your arms little bit busy.

Unfortunately, next few summer months will be slow for exercising. But I am not too upset because of that. I consider it as longer holidays and I will still do few light workouts, just less often than usually.
